Last weekend Chartwell Rocky won the freestyle competition of the Lord of the wind. The season of winter competitons had started badly for Rocky with a final “missed” on La Ventana Classic following a big crash of his sirius right in the shorebreak. This crash had deprived him of Podium. The time of revenge has come this weekend in Los Barriles Mexico.
Rocky talks about it in this interview.
ITW: In the la ventana classic 2016 Final a week ago you finish 4th after a kite crash in the shorebreak. because of that you can not finish the final. What was your feeling after that botched finale?
Rocky: In the Laventana classic I won all my heats making it all the way to the final. In the final I crashed my kite very hard causing it to tear.I had to swim in and forfeit the heat. It was hard going from first place to 4th place but I didn’t let it bring me down.
ITW: How have you managed to find the motivation to participate in Lord of the wind? in what state of mind were you?
Rocky: I knew if you fall off the horse you have to get back up and ride it again and that’s what I did when I went to the Lord of the wind.
ITW: how did the heats to the final?
Rocky: This time I had more dedication and motivation than ever to climb my way back up to the top after winning four heats in a row I found myself in the final against Anthar Racca junior world champion from Mexico.
ITW: How did you approached the final against Racca?
Rocky: It was the tough final while he managed to land a few hard tricks I managed to land more in challengingly choppy conditions. Landing a huge kiteloop slim chance , crow mobe 5, nosegrab slim chance 5, Tail grab KGB and 315 I won the heat and sealed the deal. It was a great feeling going from the bottom back to the top again!
ITW: What’s next for you? Upcoming competitions? Training? Trip?
Rocky: I definitely plan on doing some more events this year in the US. Much thanks to everyone for an awesome event and to Star kites for their support !

Le week end dernier Rocky Chatwell a remporté la compétition de Freestyle du Lord of the wind. La saison des compétitions hivernales avait pourtant mal commencé pour Rocky avec une finale « ratée » à la Ventana classic suite à un gros crash de sa Sirius en plein dans le shorebreak. Cet événement l’avait privé de Podium. C’était l’heure de la revanche le week end dernier a Los Barriles, Mexique.
Rocky nous en dit un peu plus dans cette interview.
ITW: Salut Rocky, Lors de la finale de la ventana classic 2016 il y a 1 semaine tu termines 4eme car tu craches ton kite dans le shore break et tu ne peux donc terminer la finale. Quel fut ton sentiment après cette finale ratée ?
Rocky: Lors de La ventana Classic, j’ai gagné tous mes heats me permettant d’accéder à la finale. Pendant la finale j’ai crashé mon kite vraiment très fort dans le shorebreak. J’ai due nager pour revenir au bord et je n’ai pas pu terminer la finale. J’étais premier et suite à cet incident je me suis retrouvé 4eme de la finale, mais je ne me suis pas laissé abattre.
ITW: Comment as-tu réussi à retrouver la motivation pour participer à Lord of the wind ? dans quel état d’esprit étais tu ?
Rocky: Il y a un dicton qui dit que lorsque tu tombes à cheval tu dois remonter directement dessus et avancer. C’est précisément ce que j’ai fais quand j’ai participé au Lord of the wind.
ITW: comment se sont déroulés les heats jusqu’à la finale ?
Rocky: Cette fois j’étais surmotivé et prêt à franchir chaque étapes jusqu’à la finale pour revenir dans le top. Après avoir remporté mes 4 heats d’affiler je me trouve face à Anthae Racca (Mexicain, champion du monde junior).
ITW: Comment as-tu abordé la finale contre Racca ?
Rocky: C’était une finale difficile, pendant qu’il posait quelques tricks engagés, j’ai scorré un peu plus que lui dans des conditions bien clapoteuses. J’ai passé un énorme slim chance , puis crow mobe 5, nosegrab slim chance 5, Tail grab KGB et enfin 315), ça y est je gagne le heat et le contrat est remplie… C’était un super feeling de revenir au top niveau après une compétition difficile.
ITW: quelle est la prochaine étape pour toi ? Compétitions à venir ? Entrainement ?Trip ?
Rocky: Je prépare déjà quelques événements aux USA cette année donc il faudra compter sur moi. Un grand merci à tout le monde pour cet événement incroyable et merci à Starkites pour leur soutien.
